Rusty was once a renegade feline street stalker in Custer. Deanna found him wandering the town and took him in and began looking for his new home since hers wasn't available at the time. Rusty is now a public figure in the Peace Arch City because he eventually wound up living where Deanna works. Now he has to mind three masters, Deanna of course, but now we also throw in Nancie and Jim who fill out the weekly schedule at the Washington State Liquor Board outlet #40 in the shopping mall. Rusty is often on display in the store's picture window while napping in his bed.
Rusty is now of course the "official" store mascot and he is doted over and greeted warmly by most local customers who often bring toys and treats. The "major" gifts donations have included his woven basket bed and a miniature camping tent which now resides in the storeroom's designated feline park area. Many businesses have smaller pet/mascots such as hamsters, gerbils or goldfish but are much less personable. Rusty being a customer service animal has an over developed attitude that can flip out faster than an up and coming fur ball, just like most other Hollywood types.
When we reach out and embrace our neighbors we see pictures that enhance everyday life in our own international community.
