From A Simpler Life and Time

My nephew Steve who knows every street and road in Blaine like the back of his hand recently shared this scene with me. As I stood next to this little house I felt as if a time warp had occurred right in front of me. All at once I was living in a much simpler time frame when home size and grandeur were not elements of concern for all inhabitants. This exterior has shake siding except where an additional room was added and then traditional boards were used. There was a fenced yard at one time and probably the grass was cut and garden planted with fruits and vegetables.
This little house sits on a lot and there is other vacant land adjoining it. As we have read in our newspaper home construction is booming and soon this little historical gem will be laid to rest, never to be seen again. Our fast paced society, our need for possessions and extra rooms for the stuff makes this little place highly impractical in today's world. This two or three room one time "conventional home" reminds us that even in our modern world of conveniences we cannot forget daily obligations and chores to keep the home fires going so we have heat and hot food to eat.
When we reach out and embrace our neighbors we see pictures that enhance everyday life in our own international community.
